To The Guys Who Don’t Like To Cuddle

Whenever my boyfriend and I lounge around at night, I see it as an opportunity to cuddle. I love the sense of his big and strong arms around me. I feel protected and loved at the same time. And, at times, it can be too much for him on those nights he’s dead tired; he desires nothing more than to sleep. But, then I complain that I just want to feel his touch and lay on his chest.

The thing I must learn is we cannot and will not always have cuddle sessions. Sure, he likes to snuggle once in a while, but unlike me, he doesn’t want to do it every night. Like other girls, I like to feel safe and wanted. But, how much is too much?

According to the Huffington Post article titled Men Value Cuddling, Women Value Sex, Says New Research On Relationship Satisfaction, Aline Zoldbrod, a psychologist in Lexington, Mass., told ABC News that touch in general is very important and, “touch from a person you love and trust is a major emotional resource and a way that people can regulate their emotions when they are upset. Couples who use touch to comfort, to compliment, and yes, to seduce and arouse, are bound to be happier.”

I feel happier when I’m near him because my emotional need is being met. When he’s not exhausted, he’s usually the one who mentions it first. Most times, he’s the one hugging, kissing and poking me. He’s more so the affectionate one in our relationship. But, when it comes to cuddling, I’m the one who needs it more.

But, the strange thing is I don’t need to cuddle after sex in order to feel fully satisfied. Instead, after a long day of him and I working, I just like to lay on him. Is that so wrong? And, I know when he’s not interested it has nothing to do with me. Instead, since he’s been up since 6:30 a.m. I can understand his want to head to bed. But, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to be close to him. We’re still in the honeymoon stage of our relationship, so I think I still crave physical touch. If that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.

I know once I get older, have kids and take on more responsibility , cuddling will be limited and rare. I’m just preparing myself for that, so let me get all the cuddle seshs in now before my life completely changes

UFC Gym: The No-Fear Zone

When I entered the UFC Gym in Murfreesboro, my attention focused solely on the encouragement words “Honor” “Courage” and “Determination.” They’re plastered on the wall throughout the facility and the words certainly represent what this gym is all about.

I was a bit nervous to workout at a gym that’s known for UFC competitors and hunky males. But, you see, it’s actually the total opposite because not only were there a bunch of women ready to take the Trigger Point Boxing class, the coaches didn’t stick their noses up when I told them it was my first class.

Brett accompanied me to this class from 6:30-7:30 last Tuesday.  Instead of making us feel dumb because we clearly didn’t know what we were doing, the coach took the time to come over and explain to us each move.  After we understood how to punch the 150-pound bag, we were golden. It was fun getting to take the class as a couple! At the end, we were both burnt out and it felt good to share a class with others who wanted to get in shape as well.

But, the brains behind this UFC gym’s success is Terrance Pennington, a former NFL Player. With a positive attitude and demeanor, at 6’7, he seems like a scary dude, but once you strike up a conversation, he’s nothing but nice.

“I’m so energetic and have such high energy because I’m so passionate about it,” says Terrance.

His way of doing is all about helping others reach their goals.

“Once we teach, people need to take time to learn,” says Terrance.

But, Terrance didn’t always feel this confident because he was a bit overweight during his NFL days. After his continuous knee issues, he knew he had to change something, so he began losing weight. It was a long and hard road, but he did it and lost over 100 pounds!

“I understand the struggle firsthand and am now so much more confident,” says Terrance. “That’s why I push for others to get to their goal.”

He wants people to go into this gym and get fit, but also talk about their frustrations. The difference between this gym and others is it’s one-on-one instead of a typical exercise center where you feel alone and blend into the crowd.

As a woman, I would encourage and dare you to set forth into this gym. You’ll be greeted by happy go-lucky Terrance and his group of friendly and helpful coaches. It will be a shock to those used to just being a number. One thing is for certain: You won’t be ignored or talked down to in this gym.

“I eat, sleep and s*** this health and fitness,” says Terrance. “I love recognition, coaching and developing. So, the more I know, the easier I can get someone to reach their goal.”

Go on and challenge yourself to strive for your ideal weight. If you’re too afraid to sign up for a membership due to fear of being judged, just try the UFC Gym instead. You will never be laughed at because everyone is aiming for the same thing.

O’Possum’s: The Hidden Gem

When driving on Memorial Boulevard, if you look closely, you’ll find O’Possum’s Irish Pub & Brewery. The thing about this pub is you’d never even know it was there unless you opened the doors and peered inside.  It might be a tad on the small side, but when it comes to the variety of food, there’s nothing “small” about it.

“We want people to know our name,” says Steve, the General Manager.  “We’re always trying to get more from scratch.”

And, it’s true!  The O’Possum’s staff makes everything homemade from horseradish, ranch dressing, and especially the beer!

Steve walked Brett and I over to two seats he had reserved specifically at the end of the bar, making us feel like guests of honor!  With a smile and passion in his eyes, he spoke to us of the humble beginnings.

The establishment’s name came from an Irish twist pertaining to the Possum population in the area!  We learned several tidbits about this place even before we noshed on the food!  O’Possum’s is one of 78 restaurants in town that are “green.” In other words, they use paper products and or materials that biologically breakdown versus the all-too-common Styrofoam.  Additionally, they’re adamant about recycling their cooking oil.  Not only that, they opt to use soy oil, which just so happens to be healthier!

Now, I bet you’re also wondering about the food we tried.  Well, sit back, relax and get ready to feel hungry!

To start, we asked for the Ol’ Finn’s Gold and Irish Margarita!  Who doesn’t enjoy alcohol to go alongside some Irish grub?

For an appetizer, we ordered the fried pickle.  When it arrived, we couldn’t help but take notice to the rather elegant presentation.  At first bite we received the slight crunch from the golden brown crust which than followed by the subtle zest of the pickle.  The sauce accompanied with it was somewhat of a cool and creamy, homemade ranch.

Upon recommendation, I ordered the Rachel.  Between the two pieces of marble rye laid smoked corned beef and pastrami, topped with Thousand Island dressing & fresh sauerkraut.  The combination of the bread, dressing, kraut, and the two meats made it the perfect sandwich inside and out!

Brett went for the Fish & Chips, which were battered and fried to perfection.  Now, the thing about this batter is it utilizes O’Possum’s in-house brewed beer.  You can certainly tell when fish is frozen or fresh by the taste but from the first bite, he could tell the cod was fresh from the market.  To his pleasant surprise, the tartar sauce was the star of the dish!  With the creamy consistency of the house ranch, it had a faint, yet distinct hint of fresh dill.  The combination had him talking the entire ride home!

For noodle and cheese lovers, you must try their famous out-of-this-world Mac n Cheese! It’s oozing with cheesy goodness from start to finish!

Dessert was a no-brainer after Steve had shown us photos!

So, of course Brett went for the Irish Cream Bread Pudding along with a hot cup of Irish Coffee.  Meanwhile,  I chose the Cinnamon Sugar Bread pudding with wedding cake glaze.

The Irish Cream Bread Pudding was made with Irish Cream,  and topped with dried cranberries and their in-house Irish whiskey glaze drizzled on top. The Cinnamon Sugar Bread Pudding was similar to eating a slice of out-of-this-world french toast!

You probably didn’t know this about O’Possum’s.  Since they aim to please, they often feature various dishes such as Asian, Indian, Mexican cuisines amongst others!  So, if you’re looking for a brand new dining experience, we’d highly recommend googling this restaurant and trying it out for yourself!

And, if you happen to be free on a Sunday, stop by and give O’Possum’s brunch a whirl from 10-3. Not to mention, Steve’s laid back approach, yet hands-on approach gives O’Possum’s the vibe of a modern day Cheers!

“It’s not just a restaurant, it’s a good opportunity for us and means an incredible amount to me,” says Steve. “It’s not just good food, it’s good business.”

Making Our Way To Franklin

The other night, Brett and I decided to venture over to Franklin and check out the band, SixtyFour.

According to, SixtyFour is a Beatles cover band from Middle Tennessee.  We’ll stop you short of saying they’re a “tribute” act, for you won’t see any Nehru jackets or mop-tops on stage.  Instead, we do our best to recreate the experience of listening to the Beatles records that left such an imprint on our musical consciousness, always remembering that the Beatles were first and foremost a rock and roll band.
The group began as bass player, vocalist and Grammy-winning mix engineer J.R. McNeely asked his friend, colleague, and multi-platinum-selling producer Mark Lee Townsend to sing and play Beatles songs with him at a family event, says the website.

We noticed family and friends sitting on chairs in front of Mellow Mushroom Franklin. When they began singing Beatles songs, I immediately felt a connection because my father is in love with that group. Therefore, I wanted to stand and listen to them perform. They sounded great and the crowd was going wild. If you haven’t seen them, I’d highly recommend checking them out if you’re in love with Beatles!

On May 9th at 7:00 PM, they will be playing once again on the Square, so there’s your chance to see them live!

But, I must divulge something — when you’re a newbie in town, it’s quite difficult to find local events since you don’t know anyone. So, what I usually do is simply go on Facebook, look up activities and events or just Google what sort of things going on on a particular evening.

Whether it’s Nashville, Franklin, Murfreesboro, I’ve learned (so far) there’s always something happening! It could be a Tuesday night and at least 5 events will pop up! This is the perfect town to live in if you wish to meet people, like myself. My plan is to visit local restaurants, places and hot spots around the area. So, I’m going to start doing just that!

If you ever see me around, be sure to stop and say Hello! I’m a friendly gal willing to chat about anything — well excluding sports of course — sorry!

Until next time…

Our First Holiday On Our Own

This past weekend was Easter, which was the first holiday Brett and I spent away from home. I know several people go through this every year, but usually, my grandparents come over and we eat some ham or turkey together and chat. This year was totally different because we had no family or friends to invite over.

To be honest though, it didn’t feel like a holiday to us. We woke up late, made some breakfast, took a nap, went for a walk and then came home and made dinner together. To my parent– whom miss me dearly– they felt a void because I wasn’t with them. I spoke with my mother that night and she wished me a Happy Easter and told me how much she missed me not being there.

In terms of a “homey feeling,” I’m not quite there yet. It will take some time for me to feel completely settled. In my mind, I’m on vacation; I’m not really living here. I feel as if I’m floating on a cloud. I often have to pinch myself because I believe I’m dreaming.

We’ve been here about 3 weeks now and still don’t have our couch! It will arrive next week, so we’re stuck sitting on the floor watching TV. We also need a bookcase because my magazines and books are sitting in boxes, driving us bonkers because they aren’t put away! I’m curious to see if those who recently moved here have unpacked. Also, do you have a sense of settlement or feel as if you belong?

The next big holiday will be Mother’s Day and I know that will hit me harder than I think. I won’t be able to hug or kiss my mother, rather instead, I’ll wish her a Happy Mom’s Day via Skype.

But even though I miss my family and friend, don’t think for one sec that I regret my decision to move here. I’ve had some really bad days and very good days. My emotions have been sprawled out and my boyfriend is often confused as to what to say because I can be up one minute and then down the next.

Until later…

Dating Someone With OCD

I love him, but my boyfriend is driving me absolutely nuts! We just recently moved into an apartment together and he constantly needs to plan what our next move will be. Like, for once, I’d like to just go with the flow and not have concrete plans. But, if he doesn’t plan something, he seems to go stir-crazy.

We’ve been dating for 16 months and I’m very happy with him. Well, I’m not thrilled about the OCD side of him, but guess what, I must deal and cope with him just as he has. Rather, I must think of ways to understand and not constantly ask him why we must do this and that.

I’ve learned that there are various types of OCD. Some people have rituals and routines they must follow in order to get through the day. While others make lists and stick to certain patterns when decorating.

My boyfriend has the OCD that involves list-making and event planning. Ever since we moved, he’s constantly telling me all the errands we must run and it’s driving me bonkers. For one night, I’d like to relax and not have a set plan.

Take a breather.

The other night, he told me to do some research on OCD to see what it entails because I suppose I wasn’t be supportive or understanding in his time of needs.

According to Mayo Clinic, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions). It’s also possible to have only obsessions or only compulsions and still have OCD.

He said to me, “If I could turn this off, don’t think for a second that I wouldn’t.” I thought maybe he would somehow get over it or it would go away, but it’s not that simple. If I want to be with him, I must love every part of him. There will be good times as well as bad times. I know if the roles were reversed, he would alter himself a bit to accommodate me.

Relationships are about sacrifice and give and take.  I know that he must complete a project once he starts it, but I’m not sure if I’ll understand why. If it was me, I would return to it the next day. But, I don’t have OCD, so I can do that. As for him, his brain tells him he has to finish it or else he’ll go crazy.

From now on, I’ll be a more supportive girlfriend and keep doing my research on this disorder.

Blogger Review: Popcorn Indiana

Who doesn’t love popcorn and a dinner? Just imagine: Light, crunchy– sometimes crispy– white popcorn in a bowl while you’re enjoying your favorite movie or TV show.

I was provided with three bags of Popcorn Indiana‘s well Popcorn. They sent along Sea Salt Fit Popcorn, All Natural Kettle corn and my personal favorite: All-Natural Caramel Popcorn. I fell in love with the Caramel popcorn because it was crunchy and sweet at the same time. I’m not really a sucker for sweets either, but something about this popcorn just got me hooked.

And, the others were delightful as well! I’m a health & fitness guru, so while eating the Fit Popcorn, I didn’t feel ashamed.

According to, Fit Popcorn only has 37 calories per cup. All the taste without the guilt trip.

  • Non-GMO Project Verified
  • Certified Gluten Free
  • Whole Grain
  • No Artificial Flavors
  • No Artificial Preservatives
  • No Artificial Colors
  • No High Fructose Corn Syrup

The Kettle corn popcorn tasted a tad salty and yummy at the same time! I’m telling you, they combined the right amount of ingredients and made their popcorn into a wonderful snack for the everyday person!

I recommend trying this popcorn and taking your snacking to the next level!

Blogger Review: Bob’s Red Mill Products

I’m sure you know this about me already, but when it comes to granola, you best watch out! I’m obsessed with those little nuts clusters that come in various flavors because the texture just drives me wild! I know that might sound a bit odd, but it’s the truth! I could literally consume granola every day. I know I’ve noted that about cereal as well as Peanut Butter.

Any who, I was given an opportunity to try Bob’s Red Mill Apple Strawberry Granola, 5 Grain Rolled Hot Cereal and Hearty Whole Grain Bread Mix. They were all out-of-this-world delicious! The combination of Apple and Strawberry just made the granola that much better. I added some coconut milk for some extra flavor and it was a breakfast from the gods!

Then, I tried following the baking recipe for the Whole Grain Bread Mix, but sadly, it didn’t end well. I didn’t have the proper equipment for the bread, so it didn’t come out how it should have. Regardless, if you’re a bread connoisseur, I encourage you to make this bread!

And, last but not least, when I poured some coconut milk into a bowl along with the Rolled Hot Cereal and inserted it into the microwave, my stomach was growling. Once I tasted a bite of this oatmeal-like cereal, I was in heaven. The rolled cereal looks like miniature granola bites, except they aren’t crunchy, they’re creamy.

All in all, I would highly recommend these three products to anyone looking for a new breakfast item!

4 Ways To Meet New People When You Move Away

Let’s say you went away to college or took a job in another state, but didn’t want to leave family and friends behind. First off, don’t allow your emotions or fear of moving get in the way. You must take a chance and embrace this opportunity. Who knows, something such as this may not come around again!

Being new in town has its ups and downs. For starters, you don’t know anyone, which restaurants are known or which clubs or bars are hopping! But, instead of sulking and sitting in your apartment missing your fam, you must venture out and see what’s out there!

  • Join a club!

What are you interested in? Maybe a book club or health and fitness events? No matter what tickles your fancy, there are clubs in the area that you can meet others with the same interest! Just go to and type in what you love and start meeting other folks!

  • Write for the local newspaper or online site!

If you’re a writer, I urge you to reach out to the local editor of the newspaper and ask to contribute to the site. Most online sites allow freelancers to write for their outlet. You’ll get to know the town as well as the editor!

  • Google the hot spots in your new town!

Google will be your new BFF because Google knows everything about your town! Look up restaurant reviews and try various foods your new home has to offer! You never know, you could end up chatting with a local in the restaurant and make a friend!

  • Connect with your co-workers!

Once you land a job, I urge you to connect with your co-workers.  Being buddy-buddy with the people in work won’t make the transition so sucky.

Well, if you’re going to school, I’d say to make friends with your roommate or another classmate. If you’re shy, try to step out of your comfort zone and just have a quick convo with your lab partner!

Visiting The Greenway Trail

It’s not difficult to find the beauty in Murfreesboro because it’s all around. When you’re driving down Old Fort Parkway, you can see the clear blue sky or when you merge onto 24, you can see scenic landscapes as well as farms. So, once I saw photos of the Greenway trails, I associated this park to beauty!

And, Last week when I showed Brett photos of the Greenway, he was intrigued just as I. So, this past Sunday, we took our bikes and went over to see what this trail had to offer.  We’re both into health & fitness and wanted to burn some major calories, so we figured biking would be perfect!

While biking, I felt this rush of energy.  I began thinking about how you can be living somewhere one moment and then a different location in the next.  A few weeks ago, we were living in Pennsylvania doing the same thing day after day and not getting time to enjoy and relax! Now, we were in a beautiful town biking in a gorgeous park.

When we arrived at the waterfall, it took my breath away. I loved the calm feeling that overcame my entire body. I even felt chills as we stood in front of the falling water. It was a clear and crisp afternoon, so it was an ideal setting.

In another scene, we went to the bridge, which lead us to more trails. I’d say we biked about 10 miles and I was happy to get up and go! For the last few months, I’ve had a desk job and believe I gained some weight because I was sitting all day. I know that you place your butt on the bike as well, but you’re constantly moving which uses up energy.

Overall, I say we loved the Greenway and took plenty of photos to prove its beauty! How could you not love going to park where it’s quiet and you may think? Some of the time we didn’t even talk because we were soaking it all in.

I’m thrilled to be living in Murfreesboro and I know Brett feels the same.

Until next time…
