The third annual Shakesbeer party kicks off at the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring at 7 p.m. Friday, showcasing performances by the Murfreesboro Little Theater and M-Prov.
“The idea for (this fundraiser) actually came from my husband and it’s grown into an annual event,” says Veronica Bosnak, chief financial officer for Discovery Center. “We owe a lot to the Mid-State Brew Crew for guiding us the first year and being a part of it each year after.”
The event that combines craft beer and the Bard all in support of Discovery, a hands-on, family-friend museum and nature center, has become one of Murfreesboro’s most popular social occasions.
“A very eclectic mix of people come to this event, which is why I love it so much,” Bosnak says. “We have recent college grads, young professionals, doctors, lawyers, college professors, beer lovers, theater lovers and people who just want to support Discovery Center at this event.”
While MLT actors mingle in character with the crowds and perform skits throughout the evening, the award-winning Mid-State Brew Crew will be on hand to answer questions about their craft.
“This will be the third year that the award-winning Mid-State Brew Crew will be participating in Shakesbeer,” says Art Whitaker, self-proclaimed minister of propaganda for Mid-State Brew Crew. “We were invited by the Discovery Center to participate in their inaugural event. The MSBC has been active in showcasing our homebrew in festivals across Middle Tennessee for several years and our booth has become a favorite for craft beer enthusiasts at the events we attend.”
In addition to the Brew Crew, beverage-serving participants will include Mayday Brewery, O’Possum’s, The Green Dragon, Hanger Lane Brewing, Panther Creek Brews and Murfreesboro Wine and Spirits.
To complement the drinks, event-goers can purchase eats from The Rolling Feast and Electric Sliders, which will be on hand with rolled chicken tacos, green chile pork carnitas and organic beef burgers. If those aren’t appealing, try The Electric Sliders beef sliders, pulled pork slider, chicken or portobello mushroom slider.
“What makes this event different from other events is the combination of craft beer and Shakespeare,” says Veronica. “Attendees can sample some of the best craft beer I’ve ever tasted and enjoy scenes from Shakespeare plays at the same time. No other event around offers this!”
